2/2/18-Black Voices in Tech Sponsored by BET @NJIT
Today Blacks and Latinos only make up 4 to 5 percent of the tech workforce, as a result young people of color are not confident about their ability to become successful in the tech industry. Students are five times more likely to take an interest in computer science if they often see people who look like them in that field (Gallup/Google). In honor of Black History Month, Black Voices in Tech aims to do just that by bringing in successful men/women of color making history today, to speak and mentor to a group of young men and women of color from the Newark community. Panelist will speak about how they ventured into the tech industry, as well as give actionable advice on how young people can follow their lead.
